Abstract

Pakistan entered the 21st century with an unsolved problem of national identity. The quest for identity has remained a recurring subject during the country’s 76-year history. The dictatorial rule and following martial laws from the early years, prolonged disruption of fundamental rights of the people, failure of the political and economic institutions to deliver, and slow growth in social sector development increased the alienation of Pakistan’s citizens from their state. The post-9/11 scenario amplified this sense of hostility among the majority of people of Pakistan. The respective research article intended to examine the intricate landscape of Pakistan's national identity, delving into the reasons behind its complexities, the effects on societal dynamics, and the potential future consequences. The study employs a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating historical, political, and sociocultural perspectives to offer a comprehensive analysis. It aims to contribute to a nuanced understanding of Pakistan's national identity dilemma in the contemporary global context.
